Men's Basketball Hosts Annual Media Day

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - As the second season as a member of the Big Ten Conference is rapidly approaching, the Rutgers men's basketball program hosted its annual Media Day Tuesday at the Rutgers Athletic Center. Head coach Eddie Jordan conducted a press conference, and both players and coaches met with local media to preview the upcoming season. The team also took a team picture prior to hosting an open practice for the media.
"We're excited about our team," coach Jordan said. "We're young and we're new. It's important to me that our guys embrace the process of trying to grow together and trying to develop chemistry and comradery. It's on the floor, in the locker room, and on campus."
Coach Jordan also discussed the team's new offensive mentality for this year.
"We're going to be upbeat and up tempo," coach Jordan explained. "We have perimeter players who can make plays with the ball. I want to open it up a bit more. This is new because I like the potential of our playmakers on the perimeter. We want three point shooting and we want to space the floor out."
With seven players on the roster that have yet to play a game in a Scarlet Knights uniform, a focus of the day was on the team's young talent. Rutgers has four players with freshman eligibility and three incoming transfers on this season's roster.
"I try and embrace the challenges of adjusting to college," said freshman Corey Sanders. "I just try and work hard every day on improving as much as I can and being the best basketball player I can be."
"I'm trying to take on a leadership role," fifth-year graduate transfer Omari Grier said. "I have been through a lot so far and I try to share some wisdom from those experiences with my teammates and try to be as good of a leader as I can be."
"Everyone has been working hard this summer," graduate student and returning captain Greg Lewis said. "We have a lot of young guys, and they have great talent. I'm trying to pass down advice I've gotten from older guys over the years to help them get comfortable."
The Scarlet Knights officially open their season on Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. versus Rutgers-Newark at the RAC. To purchase 2015-16 Rutgers men's basketball season tickets or a Mini-Plan, click here. To speak with a ticketing representative, please call 1-866-445-GORU (4678).
