2015 Season Stats
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Rutgers field hockey dropped its season finale, losing a 1-0 decision at No. 9 Louisville on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights finish the 2015 campaign with a 7-11 record.
"It was a really hard fought game today," head coach Meredith Civico said. "Louisville is a really strong team, being in the top ten in the country. I saw a lot of good things from the team down the final stretch of the season that we can take moving forward."
Louisville scored first 20 minutes into the game. After a penalty corner, Elisa Garcia converted to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
The Scarlet Knights pressed late in the game, but were unable to score. RU had two consecutive chances at goal after a penalty corner at the 53 minute mark. Rachel Yaney's shot was saved, and Haley Meade's try at the rebound was also stopped.
Rutgers had a final chance with one more corner with seven minutes to play, but a shot from Devon Freshnock went wide.
Carley Hawkins recorded a defensive save for Rutgers, the first of her career. Louisville outshot the Scarlet Knights 11-6 in the game, and held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Season Notes:
Nicole Imbriaco led the team with 11 goals and 25 points.
Katie Champion and Alyssa Bull shared the team lead with five assists.
Champion (five goals, five assists) and Rachel Yaney (six goals, three assists) were second on the team with 15 points.
Linde van Schaik led Rutgers freshmen with seven points (two goals, three assists).
Shevaun Hayes started all 18 games in goal. She held a 3.41 goals-against-average and .644 save percentage.
Rutgers faced six ranked opponents this season - No. 9 Virginia, No. 16 Iowa, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 18 Michigan, No. 7 Maryland and No. 9 Louisville. Three of those contests were decided by one goal.
