Rutgers Game Notes Last Meeting: Rutgers 67 - No. 4/4 Wisconsin 62 PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers (6-8, 0-1) takes flight for its first Big Ten road game of the season when it meets Wisconsin (8-6, 0-1) in a 2 p.m. (1 p.m. local) tip-off on Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison. The Scarlet Knights will be working to win their first road game as a league member and to capture their second consecutive victory over the Badgers. It will mark the seventh straight home game for UW at the 17, 230-seat venue, where it boasts a 251-37 (.872) record. The Badgers have suffered four home losses this season by a combined 11 points.
Saturday afternoon's game will be televised live on BTN with Brian Anderson calling the action and Stephanie White providing the analysis. On the radio, the contest will be broadcast live on the Rutgers IMG Sports Network, WOR 710 AM in New York & WCTC 1450 AM in New Brunswick. Chris Carlin will serve as play-by-play announcer and Joe Boylan will provide commentary. WRSU (88.7 FM) will also broadcast the game.
The game will mark the fifth meeting on the collegiate hardwood between Rutgers and Wisconsin dating back to 1949 with the Badgers holding a 3-1 advantage, which included a home-and-home series in 2003 and 2004. The Scarlet Knights dropped a 55-43 decision to No. 15-ranked Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Nov. 11, 2003. Last season, Rutgers earned a 67-62 victory over No. 4 UW at the RAC, marking the highest ranked win in program history. The Scarlet Knights overcame a 13-point second half deficit by shooting 66.7 percent (16-of-24) after the break. Rutgers out-scored the Badgers 34-26 in the paint and posted 14 of the contest's final 23 points.
Rutgers out-scored Indiana in the paint and established a 16-point advantage in points-off-turnovers, but was unable to pull the upset in a 79-72 home loss to the Hoosiers Wednesday afternoon. Senior guard Omari Grier scored 20 points to reach the 20-point plateau for a second consecutive game. Freshman guard Corey Sanders had 17 points and five assists, while senior center Greg Lewis produced 13 points and nine rebounds. The Scarlet Knights were boosted by a 10-of-11 (90%) performance at the charity stripe. Playing with a limited lineup due to three frontcourt injuries, RU matched the Hoosiers, 18-18, on the boards in the opening half. The visitors used their size advantage after the break, however, to grab 14 more rebounds than RU.
Sanders, the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, leads Conference freshmen in scoring (14.2) and steals (1.6), and is second in assists (3.6).
Wisconsin, under the leadership of interim head coach Greg Gard, suffered a 61-55 home loss to No. 14 Purdue on Tuesday night. The Badgers were out-rebounded 36-26 and out-scored 34-20 in the paint. Preseason All-Big Ten selection Nigel Hayes, who ranks seventh in the league in scoring (16.3), registered 17 points. The Badgers have started the same five players in all of their contests this season and have had 16 players see game action. UW leads the Big Ten in offensive rebounding, averaging 14.1 per game.
