Softball Travels to Penn State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 23, 2015) -- Coming off a midweek sweep of Maryland, the Rutgers softball team continues Big Ten play at Penn State for a three-game series from April 24-26. This weekend's matchup marks the last conference road trip on the Scarlet Knights' regular season slate.

SERIES AT PENN STATE

Rutgers (26-14, 10-7 Big Ten) claimed two against Maryland on Tuesday afternoon, registering back-to-back come from behind victories. In the first game, RU recovered from a 5-2 deficit to take the game by a score of 6-5 in the final inning. Next, the Scarlet Knights erased a 3-0 deficit with 11 unanswered runs to complete the sweep of the Terps.
A total of eight Scarlet Knights registered at least one extra base hit across the contests, as senior Chandler Howard (North Wilmington, Del.) led the way with two doubles and a home run. Classmate Jackie Bates (Lincroft, N.J.) went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI single and an RBI double, in addition six walks on the day. Freshman Rebecca Hall (Fairfax, Va.) paced the squad with five RBIs, including a hit by pitch to score the winning run in the first game and a three-run homer in the second.
Senior lefty Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) became Rutgers' all-time wins leader, tossing a complete seven innings in RU's 6-5 win over Maryland for her 66th win "On the Banks." Sophomore Shayla Sweeney (Barrington, N.J.) pitched four scoreless innings and allowed only two hits in the Scarlet Knights 11-3 victory.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
Penn State (24-24, 6-11 Big Ten) ended a four-game skid with a win over Saint Francis in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions dropped the first contest, 5-4, to the Red Flash before claiming the second contest, 14-2, in five innings.
Lexi Knief leads the team with a .411 batting average, including 62 hits and 14 RBIs. Kristina Brackpool follows batting a .368 clip with a team-high 42 RBIs and a .657 slugging percentage.
Macy Jones paces the pitching staff with a 3.00 ERA and holds a win-loss record of 7-3. Marlaina Laubach has seen the most time in the circle with 121.1 innings pitched. Laubach owns an ERA of 3.69 and a record of 10-9.
Head coach Amanda Lehotak is in her second season with the program.
SERIES VS. PENN STATE
Penn State holds a two-game edge in the all-time series, leading Rutgers 22-20 in games between the programs. RU has won the last two matchups, which includes a 9-0 shutout in 2012 and a 4-3 win last season.
