Men's Golf Second after Day One of Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After two rounds of the Rutgers Invitational, the Rutgers men's golf team is currently in second place with a one-over-par (284-285) scorecard in the 14-team tournament.
Towson leads the event with a seven-under-par (277-284) total, while La Salle sits in third at seven-over-par (292-283). Fairleigh Dickinson (289-288) and Wagner (297-288) round out the top five.
Individually, the Scarlet Knights were led by sophomores Matt Holuta (Indiana, Pa.) and Toks Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria), who each finished ninth in the field with a 142. Holuta produced back-to-back 71, 18-hole totals, while Pedro added a 70 in the first round and a 72 in the second.
After producing a four-over-par 75 in the first round, junior Chase Wheatley (Corona del Mar, Calif.) responded with a team-low, 18-hole score of 69 to finish tied for 14th during the first day.
Senior Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) and sophomore Jack Panagos (Hillsborough, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for Rutgers, finishing the day tied for 20th with a 146. Chang contributed a team-low 70 in the first round before claiming a 76 in the second round. Panagos ended the day with a 71 in the first and 75 in the second.
The Scarlet Knights also fielded a second team in the tournament and is currently in 10th place with a 596 (298-298). Senior Louis Bodine (Flemington, N.J.) was the highest finisher for the second squad, completing day one in 11th place with a 143 (72-71). Junior Ryan Rose (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) also enjoyed a productive day, tying for 20th with a 146 (74-72). Junior Michael Howe (Temecula, Calif.) and freshmen Matthew Walsh (Western Springs, Ill.) and Matthew Mourin (Weston, Fla.) also contributed to the scorecard.
The 54-hole tournament's final round tees off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
