Final Stats

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Meeting for the first time this season, Rutgers volleyball fell to Maryland in three sets Saturday night at the College Ave. Gym. The Terps (9-13, 1-9 Big Ten) topped the Scarlet Knights (4-19, 0-10 Big Ten) by set scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 26-24.

Senior right side Lauren Cloyd led RU with nine kills along with three blocks, while senior outside hitter Micaela Anderson contributed seven kills.

Rutgers had its best chance in the third set, as both sides traded leads throughout. Cloyd had four kills during the third stanza, including one that tied the set, 24-24, to keep the Scarlet Knights in the contest. RU, however, had a service error on the following possession before Maryland's Gia Milana recorded the deciding point.

All three sets were competitive, as Rutgers battled back and forth with Maryland in the first stanza. Sophomore Tiaja McKnight registered a kill from an assist by junior Talia Holze to make it 9-8 in favor of RU. But Maryland would respond with an 8-3 run to put the set out of reach.

In the second set, RU once again traded blows with the Terps. Freshman Karysa Swackenberg produced a service ace to put the Scarlet Knights up, 14-12. However, Maryland recorded a 13-5 scoring run to close out the set.

UP NEXT

Rutgers returns to the road for its next two matches, as the Scarlet Knights travel to face No. 3 Minnesota on Friday, Oct. 28, followed by No. 4 Wisconsin on Sunday, Oct. 30.
