Box Score Nov. 20, 2016

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - In the second meeting between the programs this season, the Rutgers women's volleyball team was topped by Indiana in three sets on Sunday afternoon at the College Ave Gym.

The Hoosiers (17-14, 6-12 Big Ten) claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-18 before holding the Scarlet Knights (4-27, 0-18 Big Ten) off with extra serves in the third set, 29-27, for the win.

Freshman middle blocker Jasmine Stackhouse matched her career high for the second consecutive match, posting seven blocks to lead the team. Senior right sides Cole Trimble and Lauren Cloyd added in four blocks each as RU led IU in the category , 9-6. Trimble also added in a team-high eight kills.

Indiana was led by Elizabeth Asdell with 12 kills while Deyshia Lofton followed with 10 kills of her own. Jazzmine McDonald added in four blocks for the Hoosiers.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, Rutgers turned the momentum to its favor at the start of set three, taking control with a 6-1 lead. RU held the gap as large as five points on numerous occasions despite IU's attempt at closing the margin. The Hoosiers managed to tie up the score late in the set as a back-and-forth rally ensued, claiming Indiana's first lead of the stanza at 23-22.

IU threatened with set point at 24-23, but the score would turn in RU's favor at 25-24 after two Hoosier errors. Rutgers capitalized on the advantage with a 26-25 lead on a block from Mikaela Matthews and Lauren Cloyd. The score was knotted twice more as RU's chance to stay alive in the match fell short with IU tacking on two consecutive points to close the third set with the win.
