PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's lacrosse fell to No. 15 Johns Hopkins, 14-2, Sunday afternoon at High Point Solutions Stadium in the team's home opener. The Blue Jays' Haley Schweizer scored a game-high six goals and added an assist in the RU (1-2) defeat.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bianca Dente (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made a career-high 10 stops against Johns Hopkins (3-0), but it was not enough to slow down the surging Blue Jay attack. Along with Schweizer's performance, two other Hopkins players - Emily Kenul and Shannon Fitzgerald - scored two goals.
Getting Rutgers on the board were senior attack Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and rookie Emily Santana (Springfield Del. County, Pa.). Despite the pair of RU strikes, JHU's defense stayed together to force 19 Scarlet Knight turnovers. The Blue Jays also bested Rutgers on the draw, 11-7, to control possession.
Freshman Dakota Pastore (Branchburg, N.J.) made her Rutgers debut in the defeat.
RU is back at High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 27 against Delaware. The match begins at noon and will stream on BTN Plus.
