INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Rutgers women's golf posted a 54-hole, program-record score 886 (287-298-301) to place 12th at the Big Ten Championships, played Friday through Sunday at The Fort Golf Resort. Sophomore Emily Mills excelled against top competition and tied for 12th with a 214 (67-72-75) total in the 83-player field.
"After this final round, I was again pleased with how we competed against some of the top teams in the country," said head coach Kari Williams. "I thought the course played more difficult today, but we were still able to record some good rounds. A top 15 finish for Emily against this difficult field is a great accomplishment to carry her over into our fall season."
Mills was among the tournament's statistical leaders in multiple categories. She was minus two in both par four and par five scoring, had 37 pars and registered 10 birdies.
Seniors Jacquelyn Mullens, Racquel Zurick and Christina Paulsen, competing in their final collegiate event, all shot well under 80 throughout and finished strong on Sunday. Mullens tied for 35th with a 221 (70-74-77), Zurick tied for 54th with a 226 (73-76-77), and Paulsen tied for 63rd with a 227 (77-78-72). Paulsen's even-par 72 on Sunday was among the best rounds of the final 18.
Sophomore Tatum Jackson and freshman Astrid Aneman comprised the rest of the RU scorecard at the Championships, which enabled a six-player format with four scores counting. Jackson was 76th with a 234 (78-76-80) and Aneman tied for 80th with a 238 (81-79-78).
For the second straight year, Northwestern and Ohio State shared the team title after shooting 12-under par 852. Due to the Big Ten's tiebreaking procedures, the Wildcats earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. NU and OSU were followed by third-place Purdue (859), and Illinois and Wisconsin, which tied for fourth-place with 862 team scores.
The Scarlet Knights placed ahead of Nebraska (890) and Maryland (910).
Purdue's August Kim won the individual Big Ten title, shooting a nine-under-par 207 (69-71-67). Ohio State's Katja Pogacar finished second (208), followed by Wisconsin's Brooke Ferrell in third place (209), and Illinois' Bing Singhsumalee, Iowa's Amy Ihm and Northwestern's Stephanie Lau in a fourth-place tie. All six players earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Championships team.
