PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse alumnus Jack Emmer was inducted into the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural 2016 class on Saturday night. Emmer was an All-American player at Rutgers before spending 35 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
Emmer lettered at Rutgers from 1965 to 1967. A defenseman, he was a team captain in his last season (1967), guiding the team to a 7-4-1 mark. That year, he was named a Second Team All-American, earned the team's William Miller Trophy and was selected for the North-South Game.
After his playing career, Emmer spent 35 seasons as a head coach at Cortland State, Washington and Lee and Army. In 1974, he earned the Morris Touchstone Award for National Coach of the Year and in 2003 he received the Howdy Meyers Man of the Year Award. When he retired in 2005, his 326 career wins made him, at that time, the winningest lacrosse coach in NCAA history. He took his squads to a total of 19 NCAA Tournaments.
Emmer had previously been named to the US Lacrosse and the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fames.
