PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Pikiell announced today that Eugene Omoruyi has signed to compete at Rutgers University. A 6-6 forward, Omoruyi was an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) First Team All-Star this past season after averaging 16.9 points and 9.6 rebounds-per-game at Orangeville Prep in Canada.

"First and foremost, Eugene is quality young man from a terrific family," said Pikiell. "From the first time I saw him, I knew he would be great in a Rutgers uniform. His athleticism and versatility will be welcomed additions to our roster. Eugene has a terrific understanding of the game and a motor to match. His ability and work ethic make him an ideal fit for how we want to play and he will undoubtedly help us compete in the Big Ten. I am very excited to welcome him into the Rutgers family."

A member of the NPH (North Pole Hoops) top 15, Omoruyi played under head coach Larry Blunt at Orangeville, where he was named both the Player and Defensive Player of the Year while helping the team to the OSBA Championship. He played alongside NBA top 10 picks Thon Maker and Jamal Murray, who competed on Athlete Institute Academy's postgraduate squad.

On the AAU circuit, Omoruyi played for Advantage Titans under the leadership of head coach Chris Smalling. He was named to the 2015 Hall of Fame National Invitational All-Tournament team.

Omoruyi began playing basketball in tenth grade after previously competing in soccer.

Omoruyi, who will be a freshman this Fall, joins Candido Sa, Issa Thiam and Matt Bullock in the Scarlet Knights' 2016 signing class.
