No. 20 Field Hockey Downed at No. 4 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 20 Rutgers field hockey fell 5-0 to No. 4 Michigan on a rainy Friday night at Ocker Field. The Wolverines improved to 10-2 and a perfect 5-0 in the conference with the win, dropping Rutgers to 7-5, 2-2 on the season.
Freshman Gianna Glatz made a career-high nine saves. Meg Dowthwaite scored two goals for the Wolverines. Michigan outshot Rutgers 24-0 and had 10 corners. Emily Howarth and Kerrie Burns each had defensive saves for the Scarlet Knights.
Glatz made four saves in the first 10 minutes holding the Wolverines off the board early. Michigan broke through on a Dowthwaite goal 18 minutes in, as she converted on a reverse chip.
Glatz continued to make saves in the opening half. The Wolverines added a second goal however in the waning minutes of the stanza on a penalty corner. Maggie Bettez inserted the corner, then knocked in a rebound off the post.
Michigan took a 2-0 lead into intermission. Glatz set her career-high in saves in the first half alone, stopping nine shots in the first 35 minutes.
Coming out of halftime, the home team scored twice in the first three and a half minutes of the frame. Dowthwaite's second goal of the day came 2:10 into the half. That was followed by a penalty stroke goal by Kayla Reed just 1:24 later. Reagan Leavitt scored Michigan's final goal 15 minutes later for the final margin.
The Scarlet Knights will remain in Ann Arbor for one more game. RU will face No. 12 Stanford at 4 p.m. Saturday.
