ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Nov. 1, 2017) – Rutgers volleyball dropped a Big Ten road match at Michigan in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-14) on Wednesday evening.
The Wolverines (16-9, 6-7 B1G) only out-killed the Scarlet Knights (5-20, 0-13) by a 39-32 count, but were much more efficient in the attacking department with a .303 attack clip while holding Rutgers to .095.
Sophomore middle blocker
Jasmine Stackhouse paced the RU attack with seven kills, matching a season high in Big Ten play, on a .267 hitting percentage. The balanced Rutgers attacked saw three players with six kills apiece with junior outside hitter
Sahbria McLetchie, sophomore middle blocker
Stasa Miljevic and freshman outside hitter
Yana Kamshilina getting in on the attack.
The first set was tight through the middle portions as Rutgers used a 4-2 run powered by two kills from freshman opposite hitter
Kamila Cieslik to pull within 15-14 behind Michigan. The Wolverines proceeded to win 10 of the final 11 points to take the opener, although the final score of 25-15 was not indicative of the close battle leading up to Michigan's final run.
Rutgers' biggest run of the night was a 10-1 spurt in Set 2 to take a 15-11 lead. McLetchie had two kills and a block assists during that stint, while Miljevic posted a block and a kill. The Wolverines answered with a 9-1 run of their own to take back control of the set before winning the final four points.
Freshman opposite hitter
Beka Kojadinovic served up two consecutive aces in Set 3 to tie the score at 8-8 during a 3-0 run for Rutgers. Michigan closed out the set with its best volleyball yet again, taking seven straight to pull away from a 19-14 advantage for the straight set win.
Up next, Rutgers plays another Big Ten road match at No. 1 Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
