Rutgers punter currently working on master’s degree
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football fifth-year senior Ryan Anderson was named to the Academic All-District II First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Anderson, who was voted 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, is now in consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America status at the NCAA Division I level. The Academic All-District teams consist of honorees from eight geographical districts across the United States and Canada.
Anderson is currently working on a master's degree in communication and information studies with a concentration in strategic organizational communication as a graduate student at Rutgers. He previously earned his bachelor's degree in May 2017 with a 4.0 GPA at Olivet College as a business administration major with a management concentration and a minor in sports/recreation management.
On the field, Anderson ranks second in the Big Ten and No. 27 nationally with a 43.7 average per punt. He has 23 attempts of 50 yards or more and six of at least 60, with a long of 64, to be within striking distance of the school record (44.1) for a single season. Anderson does pace the conference with a 44.3 average in league games, as 41-of-64 overall punts have not been returned. The Scarlet Knights have improved 66 spots in the national rankings in net punting from a year ago with a 38.3 mark.
In addition, Anderson was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list last month. A transfer from Olivet College, he finished 2016 season with an NCAA Division III single-season record 46.2-yard punting average to earn All-America honors. The DeWitt, Michigan, native started his career at Division II Saginaw Valley State.
