Meme Fletcher and Talia Holze take the College Ave. Gym court for the final time
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Nov. 18, 2017) – Rutgers volleyball celebrated the careers of its two members of the Class of 2018, Meme Fletcher and Talia Holze, on Senior Night as the Scarlet Knights fell to unanimous No. 1 Penn State in straight sets on Saturday in front of a capacity crowd of 1,218 in the College Ave. Gymnasium.
The Nittany Lions (27-1, 17-1 B1G) won by set scores of 25-5, 25-9, 25-9 while hitting .537 with 40 kills, six aces and eight blocks. The Scarlet Knights (5-25, 0-18) won the first three points of the second set all off the hands of freshman outside hitter Yana Kamshilina, who bounced a kill before serving up two consecutive aces.
Junior outside hitter Sahbria McLetchie led RU with seven kills and seven digs, while Holze passed out 11 assists on her Senior Night. Sophomore libero Karysa Swackenberg also had seven digs to lead the team in the dig department for the 19th time this season.
Penn State's Simone Lee had 17 kills on an .800 swing percentage, while Haleigh Washington posted five blocks and Kendall White scooped 15 digs.
Holze hit .500 on the evening, dumping two kills from her setter position against one of the top blocking teams in the nation. The senior also grabbed two digs during her final home game.
Rutgers closes out the season on a two-match road trip to Minnesota on Friday, Nov. 24 and Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 25. Both games are at 8 p.m. against teams both currently ranked in the Top 12 of the AVCA national poll.
