CHICAGO - Starting a stretch of five consecutive road meets, Rutgers gymnastics picked up 194.200 in a narrow defeat to Illinois-Chicago (194.275) Sunday inside UIC Pavilion. It was the fifth-straight meet the Scarlet Knights took home a 194-score.
"We showed a lot of resiliency today, but in the end it wasn't enough for us to get the win," head coach Louis Levine said.
RU once again scored best on balance beam with a 48.750. Senior April Baker and junior Makenzey Shank both claimed first place in the meet with a 9.800, which was a career-best performance for Baker. Junior Libby Groden placed tied for third at 9.775, while freshman Polina Poliakova notched a 9.725 in the final rotation.
Starting on uneven bars, three Scarlet Knights put up a 9.750 to help the team to a 48.250. The mark was a career-high for freshman Erin McLachlan, with Baker and Groden joining in on the score.
The vault lineup put up a 48.725 to match last week's season-high score. McLachlan led with her best performance of the year, scoring a 9.800 to tie for first. Sophomore Riahanah Ali followed closely behind with a season-high 9.775 and senior Claire Jones added a 9.750.
Sophomore Jenna Rizkalla topped the 9.800 mark on floor for the fourth time this season with a 9.825 mark in the third rotation. Jones also earned a 9.800 to up the team total to 48.475.
Groden went all-around and collected a 38.775. It was the Scarlet Knights' first trip to UIC.
RU will next compete at Towson on Friday. The meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
