PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's soccer spring game versus Villanova at the PDA South Complex on Friday evening, March 31, has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The Scarlet Knights will now begin their spring slate at in-state rival Monmouth on Sunday.
The contest versus the Hawks will take place at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn at 6 p.m. Monmouth won the MAAC last season to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks lost to No. 15 Virginia, 4-1, in the opening round.
RU's second game of the spring will come against the Columbia Lions on April 21 at 8 p.m. at the PDA North Complex. Columbia posted a 7-6-4 overall record last season and went 4-2-1 in Ivy League play.
Rutgers will play its final home game of the spring season versus Drexel at 8 p.m. on April 28 at Yurcak Field. Drexel went 9-7-4 last season and lost in the CAA Tournament Final against Northeastern, 3-0. The Scarlet Knights topped the Dragons by a 5-0 margin when the teams met in Piscataway on Sept. 11.
The spring concludes with RU vs. Princeton and Seton Hall in a doubleheader that begins at 6 p.m. on April 30 at Princeton's Robert Stadium. Princeton had a strong 2016 campaign, going 10-4-3 and 4-2-2 against Ivy League opponents.
RU qualified for its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament in 2016 and defeated Harvard, 3-0, in the opening round. The Scarlet Knights lost, 2-0, against eventual College Cup participant, Georgetown, in the second round of the tournament, but went 12-5-6 overall and qualified for their third conference final in the last four seasons.
