Women's Golf Concludes Lady Buckeye Invitational

Columbus, Ohio – Women's golf improved with each round to place 12th with a 967 (325-322-320) total at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday on The Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course. Junior captain Emily Mills had her second-consecutive top 20 finish, placing 20th in the 75-player field with a 228 (78-73-77).
"We made progress today with our play in the wind," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "We have a few days to practice and to prepare at home for the Big Ten Championship next week."
Mills was minus one on both par three and par five holes with 35 pars and five birdies. She has seven top 20 placements in nine 2016-17 tournaments, while registering a team-best 75.74 stroke average.
Collectively, the Scarlet Knights tallied 117 pars and 21 birdies in a very competitive field that featured eight Big Ten teams and multiple ranked programs.
Freshman Carrie-Ann Lee provided RU's second-best performance on the par 72, 6,319-yard course. She carded a 245 (83-80-82) to finish tied for 61st.
Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Greenham, junior Tatum Jackson, sophomore Astrid Aneman and freshman Ana Maria Cortes comprise the rest of the team scorecard. Greenham carded 248 (82-85-81), Jackson 250 (84-85-81), Aneman 251 (82-88-81) and Cortes 254 (88-84-82).
Michigan State shot an 889 (300-290-299) to defeat No. 24-ranked Texas by a single stroke to capture the team title. No. 16-ranked Kent State, the defending tournament champion, tied for third alongside host Ohio State with 902 totals. The Longhorns' Sophia Schubert placed atop the individual leaderboard with a three-under 213 (68-72-73).
The Scarlet Knights return to the links Friday through Sunday at the Big Ten Championship at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio. The Arnold Palmer designed championship course opened in 2001 and is a member of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour.
