DANBURY, CONN. - Freshman Taryn Atlee picked up another accolade, being named a 2017 All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team honoree, the organization announced Thursday.
"On behalf of the coaching staff and rest of the team I would like to congratulate Taryn on earning a spot on the All-ECAC team," said head coach Jay Nelson. "It is a great honor and one that Taryn worked hard for. This honor is a testament to what one can achieve when they set their mind to being the best that they can be. The sky is the limit for Taryn."
The recognition comes after the Sacramento, California, native received First Team All-Big Ten honors. Atlee became the first Scarlet Knight to earn first team accolades since the program entered the league. She is the third to earn ECAC honors, joining Jackie Bates and Chandler Howard who were All-ECAC Second Team honorees in 2014.
Atlee started all 51 contests as a rookie, leading the team in batting average (.393), hits (66), and triples (4). Her 66 hits ranked second in the league to end the season, while also sitting at second on Rutgers all-time single-season record list behind Carla Camino with 92 hits in 1993. Atlee was named a top 25 finalist for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year award for her stellar season.
