Scarlet Knights to face eight opponents ranked in final USA Today/NWCA Coaches poll
2017-18 Schedule
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling announced its full 2017-18 dual schedule on Wednesday. The 15-dual slate features eight opponents ranked in the final USA Today/NWCA Coaches poll, including five who placed within the top 10 of the final rankings. Nine Big Ten opponents appear on the schedule for the Scarlet Knights.
RU already released its home opponents for 2017-18, which include visits from Big Ten Conference foes Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State and reigning national champion Penn State. In total, Rutgers' six home opponents produced 41 NCAA qualifiers, 21 All-Americans, 10 championship finalists and seven NCAA individual champions last season.
All match times will be announced at a later date. To purchase season tickets for the 2017-18 season, click here. To renew your seasons tickets for this season, click here.
The Scarlet Knights open the season on Nov. 4, when they host Maryland at Yankee Stadium as part of the "Big Ten Battle in the Bronx," a football and wrestling doubleheader between the two schools. RU then heads to the Journeymen Duals with matchups against Virginia and Oklahoma on Nov. 11, the latter of which finished No. 18 in the 2016-17 dual rankings. Rutgers closes out the month at the Army Invitational on Nov. 18.
RU travels to Lock Haven, where Goodale was a three-time NCAA qualifier as a collegiate wrestler, on Dec. 1. After its matchup with the Bald Eagles, Rutgers hosts its first of six home duals at the RAC when it competes against Iowa on Dec. 8. Iowa finished No. 3 in the final dual rankings, as five Hawkeyes secured All-America accolades in 2017.
The Scarlet Knights compete at the 55th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Welsch-Ryne Arena in Evanston, Illinois, from Dec. 29-30. At last year's Midlands Championships, six RU grapplers placed in the tournament field, as Anthony Ashnault finished third in his weight class to lead the program at the event.
Rutgers opens 2018 with a home dual against Ohio State on Jan. 7 at the RAC, the first of three consecutive duals in Piscataway. RU also hosts North Carolina (Jan. 12) and Hofstra (Jan. 19) during the stretch.
A trip to Nebraska on Jan. 21 serves as the Scarlet Knights' first true road Big Ten match, followed by a showdown with 2017 national champion Penn State on Jan. 28 at the RAC. The Nitany Lions bring five defending individual NCAA champions to the highly-anticipated conference dual.
Back-to-back road duals with Northwestern (Feb. 2) and Illinois (Feb. 4) are followed by Rutgers' final home match of the season, a Feb. 9 tilt with Minnesota. The Gophers closed out 2016-17 tied for 12th with the Scarlet Knights in the final dual rankings. RU travels to Wisconsin on Feb. 16 for its last Big Ten match, followed by a short trip to Princeton on Feb. 18.
