Apr 22 | Wrestling
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling will have several competitors at the 2026 U.S. Open, held Friday through Sunday at the Expo at World Market Center in Las Vegas. Anthony Knox will wrestle in the senior freestyle division at 57kg beginning on Friday, while Billy Townson (61kg) and Jordan Chapman (86kg) will compete in the U20 freestyle division beginning on Saturday. All matches will stream on FloWrestling.
Knox is pre-seeded fifth in his weight class. The four-time NJSIAA State Champion has enjoyed success on the international level, being named Most Outstanding Wrestler en route to a U20 Men's Freestyle National Championship at last year's U.S. Open in Las Vegas. Knox followed with a U20 World Team Trials title at 57kg in Geneva, Ohio, securing a spot at the U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria for Team USA.
Chapman and Towson wrapped up their first varsity seasons for the Scarlet Knights. Chapman tallied 12 victories and wrestled in duals at Hofstra and Penn State, while Towson worked 10 wins competing in redshirt.
Rutgers finished No. 11 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll for the second consecutive year in 2025-26. The Scarlet Knights closed the regular season on a six-match winning streak, which included the program's first-ever win over then-No. 6 Minnesota to help RU to its best regular-season Big Ten finish ever. Rutgers secured nine NCAA qualifiers, its most since 2016, under 19-year head coach Scott Goodale.
