No. 16 Rutgers Women’s Soccer Hosts Mount St. Mary’s & Drexel

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Continuing a five-game homestand, No. 16 Rutgers women's soccer will welcome Mount St. Mary's to Yurcak Field on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights then host Drexel on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.

RUTGERS QUICK KICKS
  • Rutgers (3-0-0) picked up a Top 25 win over then-No. 21 UConn, claiming a 2-0 victory in Sunday's contest.
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Casey Murphy was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her performance, recording five saves to give RU its third consecutive clean sheet to start the season. It marked her 32nd career shutout, ranking third on Rutgers career record list.
  • Senior forward Colby Ciarrocca and freshman forward Amirah Ali each added goals, while sophomore midfielder Nicole Whitley contributed two assists.
  • Ciarrocca leads the team with five total points, including two goals and an assist across the first three contests.
  • Six of RU's nine goals have come from underclassmen this year, led by sophomore forward Carina Hendley and Ali with two each.
 
SCOUTING MOUNT ST. MARY'S
  • Mount St. Mary's (3-1-0) registered two wins over the weekend, including a 4-1 victory over Howard on Friday and a 4-1 win over Hampton on Sunday.
  • Jenna West earned Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her outing, which included four goals and one assist across both games. West leads the team with 10 points (4g, 2a) this season.
  • Jasmine McCree earned NEC Freshman of the Week after registering three assists on the weekend.
  • Last season, the Mount finished with a 5-12-1 record, while averaging 1.17 goals per game and a 0.73 GAA.
SERIES VS. THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • The meeting will be the first between Rutgers and Mount St. Mary's.
SCOUTING DREXEL
  • Drexel (2-2-0) split its matches last weekend, topping Loyola – Chicago (1-0) on Friday and falling to DePaul (3-0) on Sunday.
  • Vanessa Kara, a Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association honoree, leads the team with two goals on the year.
  • Christiana Qgunsami, also a Preseason All-CAA selection, has started all four games in net, registering 13 saves and a 1.25 GAA.
  • Drexel finished 2016 with a record of 9-7-4 and tied for second in the CAA with a 4-2-3 conference mark. The Dragons return 10 starters from that squad.
  • The Dragons will travel to La Salle for a matchup on Thursday before its trip to Piscataway. 
SERIES VS. THE DRAGONS
  • Rutgers has proven victorious in all seven matchups between the programs in a series that dates back to 1999.
  • The Scarlet Knights and the Dragons met last season, when RU earned a 5-0 victory at home.
