PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 13 women's soccer is set for its Big Ten Conference opener with Maryland on Sunday. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field.
RUTGERS QUICK KICKS
- Rutgers (6-0-1) finished its nonconference slate unbeaten with a 2-0 shutout of George Mason and a 0-0 double overtime draw at then-No. 15 Georgetown on the road last weekend.
- The Scarlet Knights have posted seven straight shutouts, as RU is one of two women's Division I squads to have not let up a goal this season. The team is tied first in the NCAA with a 0.00 GAA and 1.000 shutout percentage.
- Redshirt junior Casey Murphy was named the United Soccer Coaches National Women's Division I Player of the Week after posting 10 saves and allowing zero goals in 200:00 minutes in net over the weekend.
- Murphy was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her performance, as she is tied for first in the NCAA with a Big Ten leading 0.00 GAA on the year and ranks second with seven shutouts.
- Rookie forward Alexa Ferreira earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades, posting the first points of her career with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over the Patriots.
- Rutgers is ranked in the Top 25 of all three major polls, including No. 13 by TopDrawerSoccer.com and No. 16 by Soccer America.
SCOUTING MARYLAND
- Maryland (6-0-1) also ended nonconference unbeaten, capping off the slate with a 1-0 win over William & Mary last Thursday.
- UMD has faced two common opponents with RU this season, including Drexel (W, 2-1) and George Mason (W, 2-1 OT).
- Mikayla Dayes leads the team with eight points, tying for the team high with three goals and two assists.
- Chelsea Jackson has also posted three goals, along with an assist for seven points.
- Rachel Egyed paces the goalkeepers with 646:01 minutes in net, maintaining a 0.56 GAA with 28 saves and three shutouts.
SERIES VS. THE TERRAPINS
- The Terps lead the all-time series 6-3-1 with the Scarlet Knights, dating back to 1989.
- Since both teams joined the Big Ten in 2014, Rutgers leads 2-1 in conference matchups, including a 1-0 win last season.
