PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 21 Rutgers women's soccer, slated as the second seed, is set to host seventh-seeded Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 28 in a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field.
RUTGERS QUICK KICKS
- Rutgers concluded the regular season with a record of 11-2-5 and 7-1-3 in Big Ten play.
- RU finished as the runner-up for the conference regular season title, as the second-place result marks the highest for the program since joining the league in 2014.
- The Scarlet Knights will compete in their fifth consecutive Big Ten Tournament since joining the league in 2014, earning its top seed to date.
- A program-record seven Scarlet Knights received All-Big Ten laurels. Sophomore forward Amirah Ali (First Team), senior back Kenie Wright (Second Team), junior midfielder Nicole Whitley (Third Team), senior back Madison Pogarch (Third Team), junior defender Chantelle Swaby (Third Team), and freshman Meagan McClelland (Third Team) were named All-Big Ten. McClelland and classmate Shea Holland were selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team as well.
- McClelland, who led the league in goals-against average and shutouts, was bestowed the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award. It is the third straight year an RU rookie has claimed the honor and the fourth consecutive year earning at least one of the Big Ten's major awards.
- Rutgers moved up to No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, also being ranked No. 20 by Soccer America and sitting at No. 28 in the NCAA RPI.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA
- Minnesota finished the year with an overall mark of 9-8-1 and a league mark of 5-5-1.
- April Bockin, the Big Ten Forward of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten selection, leads the Gophers with 10 total goals on the year, including eight in league games only. She has also posted five assists this season.
- Molly Fiedler was named Third Team All-Big Ten, while Patricia Ward was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
- In net, Maddie Nielsen has seen the most action, maintaining a GAA of 1.14 with five shutouts and 53 saves.
- RU and UM have met in two of the last three Big Ten Tournaments, as the series is tied 1-1 in postseason matches. The Scarlet Knights hold a 4-3 edge in the all-time series dating back to 1995.
- The teams last met in the postseason in the 2016 Big Ten Championship match, where RU fell short in a slim 2-1 decision in St. Paul, Minnesota. The year prior, Rutgers earned a 4-1 win over the Gophers in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, marking the first meeting in postseason.
- In the regular season this year, Rutgers earned a 2-1, double overtime victory over Minnesota on the road.
