Scarlet Knights Travel to University of Nebraska and Compete in Second Race of Season at Mahoney Golf Course
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – It is Big Ten Championship time for the Rutgers women's cross country team as they compete on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.
ABOUT THE RACE
The University of Nebraska plays host to this year's championship. The women's race will begin at 11:45 a.m. (ET), while the men's race will start at 12:45 a.m. (ET). The race will be televised live on BTN Plus and FloSports, and air on BTN on a tape-delayed basis at 8 p.m. (ET) on Monday, Oct. 29.
MID-ATLANTIC POLL
Rutgers checks in at No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll moving up four positions after coming in at No. 15 for three-straight weeks. It is the Scarlet Knights' highest regional ranking since the start of the 2015 season.
THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR
Sunday will be the second time the Scarlet Knights have competed at the Mahoney Golf Course this season. RU also raced at the 29th annual Greeno/Dirksen Invitational back on Sept. 15 placing seventh among a field that included nationally-ranked Michigan, Iowa and Nebraska. The Wolverines won the team title, while the Hawkeyes finished third overall. The Scarlet Knights placed ahead the host Cornhuskers who took ninth.
Sophomore Olympia Martin led the RU contingent taking 14th overall in 22:04.08. She was followed by junior Emma Bergman with a time of 22:34.1 and classmate Nadia Saponara logging a time of 22:56.2.
LAST TIME OUT
In the final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships, the Rutgers women's cross country team raced at the Penn State National Open back on Oct. 12 at the Blue-White Golf Course .
Sophomore Olympia Martin led Rutgers in a field that featured seven teams either ranked or receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Poll. The Ridgewood, New Jersey native was only five seconds off her PR and clocked in at 21:36.
Junior Nadia Saponara was also just shy of a PR, coming in two seconds over her personal best in 22:18.
Classmate Lou Mialhe picked up a new PR for the second-straight race besting her previous top time set at the Paul Short Run at the end of September by a second with a time of 22:31.
LAST TIME AT THE B1G CHAMPIONSHIPS
Former Scarlet Knight Alexandra Juzwiak was the top Scarlet Knight to cross the finish line for the second-straight season with time of 22:34.2.
Olympia Martin was the second RU student-athlete to finish at the championship posting a time of 22:53.3 in her first conference race.
