PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 23 Rutgers wrestling continues the 2018-19 dual season with a match at Hofstra on Friday in Hempstead, New York. This will be the 25th meeting all-time between the programs after the Scarlet Knights defeated the Pride, 37-9, last winter at the RAC.
With a win over Hofstra on Friday, head coach Scott Goodale will tie John Sacchi for the most wins in program history with 166. In 12 seasons at RU, Goodale owns a 165-63-1 record.

WHAT TO KNOW
• RU split its matches last weekend in its last time out, defeating Appalachian State (26-9) and falling to Utah Valley (24-14) last Saturday at the 2018 Journeymen duals. No. 2 Anthony Ashnault (149), No. 2 Nick Suriano (133) and Shane Metzler (125) all won both of their bouts during the showcase.
• Rutgers checks in at No. 23 in the latest NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday. As a team, RU is also ranked No. 14/20 (tournament/dual) by Intermat, No. 14 by FloWrestling and No. 14 by TrackWrestling.
• Five individuals appear in the national rankings for Rutgers, including two Top 3 wrestlers in Ashnault and Suriano. The two have combined for a 10-0 record with six pins, two major decisions, a tech fall and a forfeit. Ashnault and Suriano have accounted for 55 team points this season.
• John Van Brill (157) and Nicholas Gravina (184) also appear in the national polls, with Van Brill as high as No. 9 (Track) and Gravina as high as No. 12 (FloWrestling). Stephan Glasgow is No. 23 at 165 pounds according to TrackWrestling.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
• This will be the Pride's first dual of 2018-19 after opening the season at two individual tournaments.
• Hofstra had wrestlers compete in the Journeymen Classic on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Troy, New York. In round-robin action, Sage Heller (174) finished second with a 3-1 record, while Zachary Knighton-Ward (HWT) and Dylan Ryder (125) finished second in their pools with 2-1 marks.
• Under head coach Dennis Papadatos, Hofstra finished 10-10 last season, including a 4-4 mark in EIWA action.
• Last season, then-senior heavyweight Michael Hughes picked up All-America honors with his sixth-place result at NCAAs. He was the first Pride wrestler to achieve the accolade since Steve Bonanno and Justin Accordino did it in 2012.
• Friday's matchup with Hofstra will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools. Rutgers leads the all-time series with Hofstra, 14-9-1, which includes wins in 10 of the programs' last 11 matchups.
• Associate head coach Donny Pritzlaff served as an assistant coach at Hofstra from 2004-06. While at Hofstra, Pritzlaff worked with three-time All-American Jon Masa and two-time All-Americans Mike Patrovich and Chris Skretkowicz, helping guide the Pride to three-straight Colonial Athletic Association titles and an 11th-place NCAA finish in 2006.
LAST TIME AGAINST HOFSTRA
• Last season, then-No. 16 Rutgers collected bonus points in seven of its 10 bouts en route to a 37-9 victory over Hofstra on Jan. 19, 2017 at the RAC.
• No. 18 John Van Brill and Michael Van Brill both pinned their opponents, the first time both recorded falls in the same dual for Rutgers.
• No. 2 Nick Suriano and No. 12 Richie Lewis added tech falls, while No. 17 Scott DelVecchio, No. 13 Eleazar DeLuca and No. 14 Nicholas Gravina all worked major decisions.
• The match was contested in front of 3,139 fans at the RAC.
