Volleyball Downed at Iowa

Weidt’s five blocks lead to 8-5 margin in rejections

IOWA CITY, Iowa (Nov. 2, 2018) – Rutgers volleyball began a Big Ten weekend road trip with a straight-set loss at Iowa on Friday evening at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

KNIGHT NOTES
  • With an 8-5 edge in blocking, the Scarlet Knights outblocked an opponent for the 16th time overall this season, and fourth time in Big Ten competition. Rutgers is ranked 17th in the nation with 2.70 blocks per set heading into the weekend.
  • Senior outside hitter Sahbria McLetchie tied for a match high with 13 kills, marking her 16th match this season leading the Scarlet Knights in the kill department. It also signaled her 48th career double-digit kill match.
STANDOUT STATS
  • Freshman middle Merle Weidt paced the blocking effort with five while adding eight kills on an efficient .636 attack clip with just one error in 11 attempts.
  • Freshman outside hitter Anastasiia Maksimova added six kills and two digs.
  • Junior libero Karysa Swackenberg notched her 40th career double-digit dig match with 10 at Iowa.
THE MOMENTS
  • Set 2 | A kill by McLetchie helped the Scarlet Knights score four straight points and build a 6-4 lead.
  • Set 2 | Rutgers maintained the lead at 13-10 before Iowa went on a 9-1 run to take control of the second set.
  • Set 3 | Freshman setter Inna Balyko passed out back-to-back assists to Weidt and McLetchie as Rutgers pulled within one point at 8-7.
