Scarlet Knights open season Jan. 4 at Cancun Classic
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Michelle Amoresano and sophomore Belle Huang were both selected as Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch in the conference preseason release distributed Thursday. The two each bring NCAA Regional experience into the season, which starts Jan. 4 at the Cancun Classic.

Amoresano is the most experienced member of the team with 36 meets of action over the last three seasons. She is a two-time winner of the Scarlet Knights' Hardest Worker Award and also picked up the Chrystal Chollet-Norton Award last season for hard work, a positive attitude, the ability to persevere and commitment to Rutgers gymnastics. Amoresano has competed on all four events with highs of 9.875 on vault, 9.825 on uneven bars, 9.800 on floor exercise and 9.725 on balance beam, having been all-around six times with a career-best of 38.800. The Whippany, New Jersey, native qualified for NCAA Regionals on vault in 2016.
"Michelle is coming into her senior season with a lot of experience," head coach Umme Salim-Beasley said. "She really wants to finish her career on a strong note. She has been able to train all four events and is excited about potentially being an all-arounder. We think she can make a huge impact in all of our lineups."

Huang competed in 13 meets as a rookie in 2018 with 10 all-around outings. She ended with a 38.810 RQS with a high of 39.050 to qualify for NCAA Regionals, totaling a 38.600. Overall, Huang posted 29 routines of 9.700 or better with highs of 9.875 on both vault and floor exercise, 9.850 on balance beam and 9.725 on uneven bars. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native hit all vault routines throughout the year to earn the 100% Award. In addition, Huang was added to the NACGC/W Scholastic All-America list as a biological sciences major.
"Belle gained great experience last season as an all-arounder, qualifying for postseason," Salim-Beasley said. "She has put herself in a position to be an all-arounder again this year. She is very consistent and competes calmly with a confidence in everything she does. We expect her to continue that and add maturity to what she did freshman year, and be able to show some more polish. This season will hopefully build on what she did last year."
Following the Cancun Classic, Rutgers will travel to Bridgeport before opening the home slate versus Nebraska on Jan. 19 at the Livingston Gym. Admission to all four home meets is free.
