Daphne Groothuis Named Second Team All-American

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey had its first All-American since 2008 as Daphne Groothuis was named a Second Team All-American by the NFHCA.
Groothuis excelled in the midfield for the Scarlet Knights as a sophomore, previously being named First Team All-Big Ten and First Team All-Region. She led the team with 12 goals, 13 assists and 37 points on the year, the sixth most points and seventh most goals in a single season in Rutgers history. The product of The Netherlands has 21 career assists (seventh most in RU history) and 59 career points (8th most in RU history).She was second in the Big Ten in assists per game (0.68) and points per game (1.95).
She is the first Rutgers player to be named All-American since 2008 when Amy Lewis was also named a Second Team All-American. Lewis and Groothuis are the program's only All-Americans since 2001.
Rutgers concluded the 2018 campaign with a 13-6 record. The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1986.
