Apr 21 | Women's Golf
MAINEVILLE, Ohio - Women's golf is 14th with a 613 (312-301) total after two rounds at the 2018 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships, played Friday and Saturday at TPC River's Bend. Senior co-captain Emily Mills was Rutgers' top performer on day two, carding a 73 to help the Scarlet Knights improve 11 strokes over their first round score.
Freshman Harriet Allsebrook had another strong day on the par 72, 6,357-yard course and remains atop the RU scorecard with a 151 (76-75) to enter Sunday's final round tied for 45th. The rookie is minus one on par five holes with a team-best six birdies.
Co-captain Ashleigh Greenham also had a solid effort on Saturday, carding a 75 on the Arnold Palmer-designed course. The redshirt junior was one of five Scarlet Knights to shoot an improved score on day two against a field consisting of six programs ranked among the Golfweek Top 50.
"Emily and Ash bounced back nicely today with their rounds, while Harriet continued her consistent play," said head coach Kari Williams. "We played really well on our opening nine holes, which was exciting to watch. We gave back strokes on the home stretch, but I know that we can compete and make birdies on this course. We'll look to get off to another strong start tomorrow morning and finish off our season with our lowest scores of the year."
Mills (81-73), Greenham (79-75), and sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee (76-78) are tied for 56th with 154 totals in the 84-player field. Mills has a team-best 23 pars, while Greenham has five birdies to her credit.
Sophomore Ana Cortes and freshman Lori Char complete the RU scorecard. Cortes is tied for 73rd with a 160 (82-78) and Char is tied for 81st with a 168 (86-82). Fourteen of the top 20 individual finishers from last season's Championships have returned to compete.
Maryland enters the final round in first place with an eight-under 568 (288-280), just one stroke ahead of defending champion Michigan State (283-286=569). Ohio State's Jaclyn Lee is atop the individual leaderboard by five strokes with a 10-under 134 (66-68).
The Scarlet Knights have counted 19 birdies and 96 pars. RU trails 12th place Penn State and Minnesota by 10 strokes with 18 holes to play.
Sunday's final round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Live stats are available via Golfstat. BTN will debut coverage of the 2018 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships on Monday, April 30, at 5 p.m. ET.
