Rowing Sweeps Cherry Hill Invitational

Scarlet Knights won all six events
CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Rutgers rowing won the Cherry Hill Invitational on Saturday, April 21 on the Cooper River. The Scarlet Knights won every event by open water, including the Grand Final of the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four.
"Today was another good step forward for our program," said head coach Justin Price. "I thought everyone represented Rutgers well and took a lot of pride in racing in our home state."
Rutgers competed in a field of 11 teams, including host school Bucknell, Connecticut, Georgetown, MIT, Marist, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Fordham, SMU and Jacksonville.
The Scarlet Knights posted the fastest time of the varsity eight heat and then advanced to the Grand Final which they won in a time of 6:38.76. In the second varsity eight, Rutgers again finished with the fastest heat time to move on to the Grand Final. RU posted the only sub-seven minute time as it won the Grand Final in 6:52.21.
In the varsity four, the Scarlet Knights won the Grand Final after again finishing their heat with the day's fastest time. RU clocked a time of 7:42.58 for the third win at the invitational. Rutgers raced a pair of boats in the second varsity four with second varsity four advancing to the Grand Final and the third varsity four competed in the Petite Final. Rutgers won the Grand Final in 7:53.08 and finished third in the Petite Final in 8:59.47.
The novice eight won the third varsity eight final in the largest margin of victory with a time of 7:00.70, thirty seconds faster than the second-place Connecticut boat. Rutgers also won the fourth varsity eight final, as the second novice eight clocked a time of 7:39.48, outpacing runner up Fordham (8:02.68).
Rutgers will next race in the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, April 29 in Worcester, Mass.
