Rowing Post Strong Showing at Eastern Sprints

Scarlet Knights collect medals in five of seven events
WORCESTER, Mass. – Rutgers rowing competed in its final tune-up race before the Big Ten Championships, with a strong showing at the Eastern Sprintson Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights finished third in overall team scoring and posted six top-three finishes, including a win in the second varsity four and fourth varsity eight.
The Rutgers varsity eight placed third (6:31.96) in the Grand Final in what was a photo finish with Dartmouth, which took second in 6:31.19. The Scarlet Knights were just four seconds off the leader Harvard.
In the second varsity eight, RU placed second in the Grand Final with a time of 6:48.51, while the novice eight also earned a silver medal with a time of 7:07.02. The second novice eight defeated Connecticut to win the fourth varsity eight event.
The Scarlet Knights claimed a victory in the second varsity four, outpacing the field in 7:45.28. The varsity four finished third in the Petite Final with a time of 7:44.86. In the third varsity four, RU placed third in 8:34.80.
The Eastern Sprints field included No. 17 ranked Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT, Tennessee, Boston University, Northeastern, Columbia, Temple, Boston College, Connecticut and Drexel.
Rutgers will return to action for the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, May 13 in Indianapolis, Ind.
