No. 24 Rutgers Women’s Soccer Defeats Drexel, 2-1

Scarlet Knights record second straight win to start 2018

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  No. 24 Rutgers women's soccer picked up its second straight win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Drexel on Sunday evening at Yurcak Field.
 
Sophomore midfielder Gabby Provenzano gave the Scarlet Knights a 1-0 lead before the Dragons tied it up 1-1 before halftime. Classmate and forward Amirah Ali returned the lead to RU following the break to seal the win.
 

QUICK STATS
Provenzano and Ali each recorded goals, while junior midfielder Taylor Aylmer and senior back Kenie Wright contributed assists. Freshman goalkeeper Meagan McClelland registered three saves for her second career win in the net.
 
Drexel's Kiera Hennessy added the Dragon's goal in the first period and Libby Baeza recorded four saves in the match.
 
THE MATCH
Provenzano kicked off scoring with her first career goal early in the 16th minute. Off a setpiece from Aylmer, Provenzano took a shot from 6-yards out to hit the back of the net and give RU a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
 
In the 37th minute, Drexel's Hennessy scored a header off a corner kick sent in by Natalie Patalone, balancing the count at 1-1.
 
Returning from the half, Ali wasted no time getting the Scarlet Knights back in front. A midfield pass from Wright set up an opportunity for Ali to beat the keeper and reclaim a 2-1 lead.
