Kojadinovic & Swackenberg Set Career-Highs in Opening Loss to Colgate

BERKELEY, Calif. (Aug. 24, 2018) – Rutgers volleyball opened the 2018 season with a four-set loss to Colgate (27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23) despite outhitting, digging and blocking the Raiders at Cal's Molten Classic.

Rutgers faces the host Golden Bears at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday evening before closing out the Molten Classic with a Saturday match against Chicago State at 2 p.m. ET.

KNIGHT NOTES
- Sophomore right side Beka Kojadinovic swatted a career-high 17 kills on a career-best .382 attack percentage, adding eight digs and four blocks.
- Rutgers' 12.5 total team blocks was the most in a match since 14 at Wisconsin on Oct. 30, 2016.
- Junior libero Karysa Swackenberg scooped a career-high 24 digs, leading Rutgers to its highest dig total (71) in a four-set match since Oct. 24, 2015 against Maryland.
- The Scarlet Knights held advantages in kills (54-48), attack percentage (.160-.154), digs (71-66) and blocks (12.5-10).
- Freshman setter Inna Balyko notched a double-double of 43 assists and 12 digs, while adding two aces and three kills in her collegiate debut.
- Freshmen Merle Weidt and Anastasiia Maksimova also made their college debuts, with Maksimova picking up five kills.
- Senior outside hitter Sahbria McLetchie also produced a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, while pacing RU in blocks with six, including two solo jobs.
- Junior middle blocker Jasmine Stackhouse was Rutgers' tertiary point producer with eight kills and four block assists.
- Colgate improves to 6-4 in the all-time series.
- Set 1 | Down a point midway through the opener, Balyko pancaked a ball leading to Kojadinovic's attack off the block, part of a 6-0 run to put RU ahead 14-12. The Scarlet Knights had four blocks over that span.
- Set 1 | The Raiders outlasted Rutgers during a tight end to the stanza. McLetchie picked up kills to tie the score at 20 and 21-all, while Kojadinovic bounced a pair for a 24-23 lead and a 25-25 tie score before Colgate closed out the set with a kill and a Rutgers attack error.
- Set 2 | Kojadinovic's kill and subsequent ace tied the period at 5-5 and another kill sparked a 3-0 run and a 10-8 lead.
- Set 3 | 4-0 and 6-3 leads were paced by two blocks and a kill from junior middle blocker Jasmine Stackhouse.
- Set 3 | The set was won late as McLetchie notched three straight kills amid a 6-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. The set ended in a 9-3 run for the Scarlet Knights, stamped by two Stackhouse kills.
- Set 4 | Balyko found the floor twice late in the set for a 19-19 tie and to bring RU within 23-21, but Colgate closed out the match on a 6-3 run.
