
Daphne Groothuis Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J – Rutgers field hockey sophomore Daphne Groothuis was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Over a two-win weekend that included defeats of Hofstra and No. 18 St. Joe's, she had two goals, five assists and a defensive save.
Groothuis had at least one goal and two assists in each game this weekend. Against Hofstra on Friday, she had one goal and a career-high three assists. Then in the ranked win over No. 18 St. Joe's on Sunday, the midfielder factored into every RU goal with one goal and two assists in the 3-2 victory.
This season, she has at least one goal and one assist in each game for a team-leading three goals, six assists and 12 points on the season. The native of Nieuwerkerk ad IJssel in the Netherlands has already matched her career-high with six assists.
Groothuis leads the Big Ten at 4.0 points per game, which is third nationally. Her 2.0 assists per game are tied for the nation's lead. Her average of one goal per game is second in the conference and ninth in the nation.
This is the first time that Groothuis has been named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. Last season she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice en route to being named Second Team All-Big Ten. The last Rutgers player to be named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week was Nikki Santore, who earned the honor on Sept. 13, 2016.
