PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse has announced an addition to its staff, hiring Shane Carmody as the program's new Director of Lacrosse Operations.
Carmody joins the Scarlet Knights staff after spending the past two seasons as a coach at Montclair State. He served as an assistant coach and Director of Recruiting under head coach Mike Schambach, a Rutgers graduate. Carmody also served as the acting head coach from June to October of the past year.
Carmody was the team's offensive coordinator, while also running the substitution box, as the Red Hawks won 20 games over the past two seasons. In 2017, MSU won a Skyline Conference Tournament and earned an NCAA tournament berth. He was part of the 2018 IMCLA Staff of the Year and was named the 2018 IMLCA Assistant Coach of the Year.
Carmody graduated Rutgers in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and Minor in Business Administration-Marketing. While a student, Carmody worked with the program as a student assistant coach.
In high school, Carmody played lacrosse at Bridgewater-Raritan High School under head coach and Rutgers alumn Chuck Apel, winning two Tournament of Champions titles.
With Carmody added to the staff, Jimmy Ryan will move into the role of Volunteer Assistant Coach. Ryan spent the past season as the Director of Lacrosse Operations. He will move into a larger on-field coaching role, working with the goalkeepers and faceoff specialists.
Five teams ranked in the top-20 will visit HighPoint.com Stadium this season and season tickets are now on sale for the low price of $40, with the season beginning on February 2. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-866-445-GORU (4678) or ordering online via ScarletKnights.com. Rutgers will also host the Big Ten Tournament on May 2-4.
