Wrestling Rankings Update: Week 12

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With the dual season in full swing, Rutgers wrestling appears as high as No. 13 by Intermat in the latest national polls. The Scarlet Knights are also ranked No. 14 by The Open Mat, No. 15 by FloWrestling and No. 17 by TrackWrestling. RU moved up two spots in this week's NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll, appearing at No. 18.
Ten Big Ten programs appear in the latest coaches poll, including six teams – No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 4 Iowa, No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Minnesota and No. 9 Nebraska – in the top 10. Four teams in the top 25 – No. 6 Michigan, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 19 Purdue and No. 21 Princeton – are featured on this season's remaining schedule. In total, Rutgers will have faced nice teams who have appeared in the coaches' poll throughout the 2018-19 campaign.
Five Scarlet Knights are ranked by national outlets, including Anthony Ashnault (149), who is the consensus No. 2 wrestler in his weight class. Ashnault, who sports an unblemished 16-0 record this season, has defeated five ranked foes in 2018-19 and three top-10 opponents.
Nick Suriano (133) is considered the No. 5 wrestler in his weight class by Intermat, FloWrestling and The Open Mat. The junior is 14-2 this season and has collected three falls, six major decisions, a tech fall and a forfeit to earn 45 dual points for Rutgers.
Three other Scarlet Knights appear in national rankings. John Van Brill (157) is as high as No. 13 by The Open Mat, Nicholas Gravina (184) is as high as No. 16 by The Open Mat, and Willie Scott (174) appears at No. 21 in the latest rankings by TrackWrestling.
In the latest pound-for-pound rankings from FloWrestling, Ashnault is regarded as the No. 13 overall wrestler in the country while Suriano is pegged as the 18th best wrestler nationally.
