Men's Soccer Hits Road For Next Four Games Beginning With Hartford on Tuesday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's soccer team begins a four-game road trip beginning with Hartford on Tuesday at 7 p.m.at Al-Marzook Field streamed on ESPN3.

- The Scarlet Knights returned to the win column, captured their first Big Ten victory of the year and snapped a three-game setback streak on Friday night in a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin.
- The two squads were scoreless at intermission before Rutgers exploded for three second half goals.
- Senior captain Jake Longo put away the game-winning on his first career goal. Off a clear on one of the Scarlet Knights' nine corner kicks, Kyle Galloway kept play alive with the flick with his back to the Wisconsin goal landing inside the 18 for Longo to slide the ball into net past the surging Badger keeper from six yards out.
- Two more insurance goals were added late within three and a half minutes of each other.
- While the Badgers managed to block Kyle Galloway from an attempt from eight yards out at the right post, sophomore Nick Cruz controlled the rebound to Pablo Ávila in front of the net for the header to give RU a 2-0 lead in the 87th minute.
- In the final minute, Rutgers extended its lead with Pablo Ávila wide open down the left side. Dribbling into the post, he was able to slot the ball past a surging opponent keeper to Brendan Wall to have an open look on goal.
- Freshman goalkeeper Oren Asher logged his third shutout of the year with a pair of saves.
- Ávila is in a four-way tie for second in the Big Ten with five goals and sits in third in the league in points with 12 (5G, 2A).
- Ávila and freshman Jackson Temple along with Bardia Kimiavi (Northwestern), Devyn Etling (Ohio State) and Joshua Penn (Indiana) each have two game-winning goals in 2019 and are tied for second in the Big Ten in game-winning goals.
- In goal, freshman Oren Asher is third in save percentage (.768) and is tied with Ohio State's Parker Siegfried with three clean sheets on the season.

- The Hawks welcome the Scarlet Knights to Connecticut on a 10-game unbeaten streak with a 7-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 America East record. The streak is the longest since Hartford joined the Division I ranks in 1984.
- Hartford is coming off a 1-0 America East win at Stony Brook in which Nick Benjamin scored with less than five minutes remaining.
- Benjamin leads the Hawks with seven points (3G, 1A) and is followed on the stat sheet by Kamer Nuhiu with a trio of goals.
- In goal, Jimmy Slayton is holding down a 0.632 goals against average and .840 save percentage with seven shutouts.
