PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 19 Rutgers field hockey (6-6, 1-3 Big Ten) battled No. 8 Northwestern (11-5, 4-1 Big Ten) before ultimately dropping a 4-1 decision to the Wildcats.
Katie Larmour scored the lone RU goal.

Northwestern scored first, tallying late in the first quarter. The Wildcats converted on a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead.

The Scarlet Knights had a quick answer early in the second quarter. Rutgers earned a corner of its own, and
Austyn Cuneo sent the ball in to the back post.
Katie Larmour was there to redirect the ball into the net and tie the game at 1-1.

The visitors answered again, scoring five minutes later. The Wildcats led 2-1 at halftime despite the home team owning a 7-4 advantage in shots and 3-2 marker in corners.

Play resumed in the second half and the third quarter passed scoreless. Midway through the fourth, the Wildcats were able to poke home an insurance goal after a scrum in front of the net. A penalty stroke would give NU the 4-1 final margin.

- Katie Larmour's goal was her fifth of the season, giving her sole possession of the team lead.
- Austyn Cuneo had her team-leading sixth assist of the season.
- Gianna Glatz made six saves.
- This was the first game this season that RU surrendered more than two goals.

Rutgers returns to the road next weekend. The Scarlet Knights will play Friday at No. 18 Ohio State and Sunday at No. 24 Michigan State.
