Volleyball Travels to Ohio State for BTN's Wednesday Night Block Party

Scarlet Knights & Buckeyes Serve Up Action Beginning at 6 p.m.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers volleyball travels to Columbus, Ohio to meet Ohio State on BTN's Wednesday Night Block Party at 6 p.m. with Lisa Byington and Michelle McMahon on the call.
Ohio State enters the contest at 10-10 overall and with a 3-5 mark in Big Ten action. The Buckeyes have swung back and forth between the win and loss columns in their last five matches including falling in a five-set match, 3-2, to No. 20 Purdue and a straight-set victory over Iowa at home last week.
• The Scarlet Knights are once again nationally ranked in blocking - coming in 30th this week with 2.55 per set, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten. RU set a program record for blocks in a season in 2018 with 300 total and 2.63 per set. Rutgers ended the season ranked 27th in the nation and fourth in the Big Ten in blocking last fall.
• Rutgers has broken out for high hitting percentages in Big Ten play this season. The Scarlet Knights combined on a .353 hitting percentage in the third set victory at No. 7 Minnesota on Oct. 5. RU also hit .308 in a set against No. 2 Nebraska on Oct. 2 and .353 in a set against Michigan, who was receiving national poll votes, on Sept. 25.
• Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 14, Rutgers volleyball won two tournaments in a row, six straight matches and 12 consecutive sets for its longest winning streak since 2012, when the program won 12 straight matches for a 14-1 start to the season.
• Senior libero Karysa Swackenberg was named the Big Ten Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her performance during the period ending Sept. 8. The honor is the first of its kind for Rutgers since joining the conference in 2014.
• After setting eight school records in 2018, the Scarlet Knights already have two new program marks in the books for 2019. The team set a record for blocks in a four-set match with 18 against Towson on Sept. 6, while sophomore middle Merle Weidt totaled 12 blocks - an individual record for blocks in a four-setter.
• Swackenberg scooped a career-high 27 digs in the five-set match against Grand Canyon on Aug. 31 as she surpassed 1,000 career digs as a Scarlet Knight. She becomes just the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 digs, and now ranks fifth all-time with 1,182 digs.
• Senior middle Jasmine Stackhouse tied the Rutgers career block assist record at Michigan on Oct. 19 with 334 in her career and raised her career total to 357 blocks, which is fifth in the all-time record book at Rutgers. Stackhouse was named to the Ellis Rowland Memorial All-Tournament Team at Colgate with 16 blocks in nine sets to go with 21 kills.
• Sophomore setter Inna Balyko was also named to the All-Tournament Team at Colgate with 86 assists, 30 digs and eight kills in three sets, while directing an offense that hit .294 over the weekend without dropping a set. She already ranks ninth all-time in Rutgers history with 1,634 career assists.
• Rutgers has six or more service aces in nine of 19 matches this season.
• RU is 6-2 this season when winning the third set.
• Tali Marmen has led or tied for the team-lead in services aces eight times this season.
• Rutgers had led or tied for the lead in team blocks in 10 of its 19 matches, including three of the last five Big Ten matches.
• Rutgers had led or tied for the lead in team service aces in 10 of 19 matches.
• Six Scarlet Knights have 1.5 or more kills per set, while six different RU players have led a match in kills this season.
• Rutgers is 4-1 this season when winning the first set and 5-0 when leading in attack percentage.
• The Scarlet Knights are 5-0 when hitting over .250.
• Against Michigan in their last time out, senior middle Jasmine Stackhouse picked up a pair of blocking assists, tying the Rutgers all-time record. Stackhouse joins Mikaela Matthews (2012-16) a top the list with 334.
• Stackhouse also moved into fifth on the all-time total blocks list with 357. She needs 14 more to surpass Mikaela Matthews (2012-16) for fourth all-time. She is currently averaging 1.10 blocks per set which is 13th overall in the Big Ten.
• In two seasons, Inna Balyko has cracked RU's top 10 in assists with 1,634. Currently sitting in ninth overall, she needs seven more to move into eighth all-time past Roxy Calder (2005-08). Averaging 8.64 assists per set, she is also ninth in the league.
• Karysa Swackenberg is also moving up RU's record book and currently sits in fifth place in all-time digs with 1,182. On the year, she is averaging 3.35 per set and ranks 14th in the Big Ten.
• Rutgers is currently fourth in the Big Ten in service aces averaging 1.44 per set. Caitlin Kikta captured a career-high three aces at Michigan State on Friday night, while Anastasiia Maksimova logged a career-high three aces against Michigan on Saturday. Tali Marmen leads Rutgers with a team-best five service aces this season in a nonconference matchup with Virginia, while Kamila Cieslik recorded a season-high four against the Cavaliers.
• Merle Weidt is among the Big Ten leaders in hitting percentage in league play at .390 percent and having committed only nine errors in her 82 total attacks in eight league games.
The Scarlet Knights return home to New Brunswick to host Northwestern at the College Ave Gym on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
