PISCATAWAY, N.J. – RV/21 Rutgers women's soccer defeated Northwestern, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. The match was presented by RWJBarnabas Health and was a Pink Out to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

QUICK STATS
Junior forward Nneka Moneme and senior forward Brittany LaPlant added goals for RU, while junior forward Amirah Ali and senior midfielder Taylor Aylmer contributed assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Meagan McClelland registered three saves for her seventh shutout of the year.

The Scarlet Knights improved to 9-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten, while the Wildcats fall to 4-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the league.
Northwestern's goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood recorded a game-high six saves in the loss.

THE MATCH
Rutgers jumped to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Moneme in the 17^th minute. After Ali passed up to Moneme through Northwestern defenders, Moneme took the shot from the top of the box and scoring to the left of the net for the RU advantage.

Then for the second straight game, LaPlant split two defenders to cushion the Scarlet Knight lead with a goal in the 81^st minute. Aylmer added the assist to help seal the Rutgers win at 2-0.

While the offense kept the momentum, McClelland held strong in net to register her seventh clean sheet in the win.

UP NEXT
Rutgers hits the road for two Big Ten matchups, starting with Iowa on Friday, Oct. 11. The Scarlet Knights then visit Nebraska on Sunday, Oct. 13.
