Wrestling Set for 2019 Navy Classic

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling (5-0) will send a full varsity squad to the Navy Classic on Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland. The individual tournament, featuring athletes from 18 teams, begins at 10 a.m. ET, with semifinal bouts tentatively scheduled for at 2:30 p.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
There will be no live video of the event, but fans can follow along with FloArena as well as on Twitter (@RUWrestling). The field features wrestlers from NWCA-ranked programs No. 4 Virginia Tech and No. 22 Lock Haven, as well as from Air Force, American, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, The Citadel, Cleveland State, Edinboro, George Mason, Kent State, Michigan State, Navy, Ohio, Old Dominion, Oregon State.

• In their last time out, the Scarlet Knights collected two wins on the West Coast with victories over Fresno State (23-13) and Cal State Bakersfield (24-12) to move to 5-0 on the season.
• RU won 13 out of 20 possible bouts during the road trip, which included two victories over ranked foes. Gerard Angelo (149) earned a major decision over No. 18 Russell Rohlfing (CSUB), while Sammy Alvarez downed No. 23 Gary Joint, (Fresno State), a 2019 NCAA qualifier.
• Rutgers features six wrestlers in the latest individual rankings from FloWrestling - No. 14 Joseph Grello (174), No. 15 Sammy Alvarez (133), No. 15 Jordan Pagano (197), No. 20 Christian Colucci (HWT), No. 23 Gerard Angelo (149) and No. 25 Michael Van Brill (157).
• Rookies Nicolas Aguilar (125), JoJo Aragona (141) and Billy Janzer (184) are also ranked by TrackWrestling, coming in at No. 28, 31 and 30, respectively.
• Through its first five dual matches, the Scarlet Knights are a combined 38-12, which includes 18 wins by bonus. RU has also pinned five opponents in dual action to begin 2019-20.
