
Aguilar, Pagano Capture 2019 Navy Classic Individual Titles

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Nicolas Aguilar (125) and Jordan Pagano (197) captured individual titles to highlight action for Rutgers wrestling at the 2019 Navy Classic on Saturday in Annapolis, Maryland. RU accounted for 15 falls during the all-day tournament, as Aguilar and Sammy Alvarez (133) each added two ranked wins to their resumes.
RU finished fifth in the 18-team field with 83.3 team points and had four placewinners – Aguilar (first), Pagano (first), Alvarez (sixth) and Billy Janzer (sixth).
Aguilar went 5-0 during his run the tournament final, using a takedown in sudden victory to defeat Gage Curry (American) for the title. Aguilar picked up two ranked wins en route to the championship, as he defeated No. 17 Sidney Flores (Air Force) by decision, 7-4, in the quarterfinals and downed No. 20 Joey Prata (Virginia Tech) in the semifinals. Aguilar, who moved to 10-1 on the season, outscored his opponents, 33-11, in his five matches on Saturday.
After a first-round bye, Pagano collected four consecutive victories for his individual title. Pagano defeated Jacob Koser (Navy) with a takedown in sudden victory for a 4-2 win, and followed with a last-second takedown against Colin McCracken (Kent State) in the final. With his performance, Pagano is now 9-1 this season.
