Nov 05 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY – Rutgers University Athletics, in conjunction with Rutgers Sports Properties, today announced the Steve Pikiell Podcast Powered by Learfield/IMG College, a 12-episode podcast dedicated to Scarlet Knights men's basketball. Hosted by men's hoops play-by-play voice Jerry Recco, the initial episode is now available via the Inside Rutgers Athletics channel on Apple Podcasts and will also be available on Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify and iTunes by searching "Inside Rutgers Athletics."
2019-20 Steve Pikiell Podcast Schedule
Recco, the morning updates anchor on sports radio station WFAN in New York City, is in his fourth season as RU men's basketball announcer. Born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey, he has also served as the radio play-by-play voice of Columbia Lions football since 2006.
The Steve Pikiell Podcast is among several new media ventures launched by Rutgers Athletics in coordination with Rutgers Sports Properties this season. In August, a re-vamped mobile app for iPhone and Android was introduced that features ticketing integration, enhanced content and engagement, live viewing and statistics and provides a more immersive experience. Rutgers also launched a new web show hosted by Emmy Award-winning sports journalist Bruce Beck titled "Knightlife."
Rutgers opens its 108th season of collegiate basketball versus Bryant on Thursday evening in the first of three games in the Garden State Showcase at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights have a 78-29 all-time record in game one contests. Pikiell is 3-0 at the RU helm in openers and 24-4 in non-conference home games. Fans have the opportunity to secure tickets online or by calling 866-445-GORU (4678). Additional information can obtained via RutgersGameday.com.
RU was named the Most Improved Team of the 2018-19 season by Sports Illustrated in its year-end wards. The Scarlet Knights improved 70 positions in the Pomeroy ratings, best among all power conference programs. Currently No. 63 in the Pomeroy Preseason College Basketball Ratings, Rutgers returns three starters and eight scholarships letterwinners from a team that tied for 10th in the Big Ten with seven conference wins, RU's most in league play since 2005-06.
