Scarlet Knight Swimmers Use Long Course Trials To Take Step Towards Olympic Dreams

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Several members of the Rutgers women's swimming program were back in the water at the Rutgers Aquatics Center on Sunday morning for Long Course Trials, an opportunity to capture times in a metered pool and measure results for potential Olympic invites.

With Rutgers looking to be a destination for swimmers from around the globe to enhance their dreams of not only competing at the highest level collegiately, but also on the world's stage, the long course trials on Sunday saw a trio of Scarlet Knights qualify for Olympic trials or capture national cuts for their respective countries.

Senior Clare Lawlor qualified for Ireland's trials in three of four events she swam including the 50 back, 50 fly and 50 free. Simone Lusby of New Zealand registered times to be eligible for her country's trials in the 50 back and 100 back.

Meanwhile, freshman Sofia Chichaikina logged Russian national cuts in both the 50 and 100 free.

Rutgers has several more opportunities this year to qualify for Olympic dreams. Also on the schedule for Scarlet Knights are the Irish National Championships, the Italian National Championships and the USA Swimming TYR Pro Swim Series.
