Women’s Lacrosse Travels to Delaware Saturday

Scarlet Knights take on Blue Hens at 3 p.m.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse competes in its first road contest of 2019, as it travels to face Delaware on Saturday for a 3 p.m. showdown in Newark. The game will stream for free via Delaware Athletics' YouTube Channel.
Last Time Out
Behind hat tricks from senior captain Abbey Brooks, junior Samantha Budd and rookie Marin Hartshorn, the Scarlet Knights defeated Marist, 13-9, last Saturday at HighPoint.com Stadium. RU outshot the Red Foxes, 31-22, caused 19 Marist turnovers and held the visitor to just three goals in the second half to secure their second win of the season.
Budd was all over the field in the win over the Red Foxes, as she contributed five points on three goals and two assists along with three draw controls and a ground ball. Brooks and Hartshorn each added an assist to their hat tricks, while sophomore Taralyn Naslonski dished out a game-high three helpers and earned a team-high five draw controls to aid the cause.
On defense, senior Regina Sharp had three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior captain Christine DiLullo corralled a game-high four ground balls.
Scouting Delaware
Delaware enters Saturday's game with a 1-1 record after it dropped a 15-4 contest to No. 11 UPenn last Saturday in Newark. Mia DeRuggiero guided the Blue Hen offense and finished the day with one goal and one assist.
Through two games, Christine Long leads Delaware with four goals and co-leads in points with DeRuggiero with five.
In goal, Kate Brewster is the goalie of record with 26 saves and a 9.50 GAA. Brewster was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week after she logged the most saves for a Blue Hen in 26 years after posting a career-best 20 saves in their season-opening win against Temple.
Series History
Delaware leads the all-time series, 17-12, which includes wins in four of the last five matchups. However, Rutgers defeated the Blue Hens, 14-10, last season in Piscataway.
B1G Accolades for Hartshorn
Hartshorn continues to impress in her first collegiate season, as she was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time. The honor comes after Hartshorn earned a combined six points on five goals and an assist against Marist (Feb. 16) and Temple (Feb. 13), to go along with six draw controls and four ground balls.
Hartshorn recorded her second career hat trick in the Scarlet Knights' 13-9 win over Marist last Saturday, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist for four points. The Allentown, New Jersey, native also corralled two ground balls, earned a draw control and caused a turnover in the victory over the Red Foxes. Against Temple, the freshman scored twice, secured a team-high five draw controls and scooped up two ground balls to fill the stat sheet.
Within the B1G
Through the first two weeks of the season, Naslonski is first in assists-per-game (2.67) and second in points-per-game (5.67) within the Big Ten Conference. The Randolph, New Jersey, native is also tied with Hartshorn for ninth in the league with three goals-per-game.
Hartshorn is No. 3 in the conference with five draw controls-per-game, while sophomore Julia Lytle is eighth with 1.33 assists per game.
