Scarlet Knights compete Friday and Saturday in Palm Coast, Florida
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's golf opens its 2019 spring season this weekend at the Big Ten Match Play Championship from Friday to Saturday in Palm Coast, Florida. The two-day event will be held at the Conservatory and Ocean courses at the Hammock Beach Resort.
Friday's opening round begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights – seeded No. 13 – take on No. 6 Ohio State in round one on the Ocean Course.
Participating Teams
All 14 Big Ten programs will participate in the championship event. The 14 teams have been drawn into a single-elimination bracket, with the seeds determined using the final GolfStat rankings from the fall.
Who's Going?
Head coach Rob Shutte will bring junior Tony Jiang, sophomores Christopher Gotterup, Putt Sridama, Bobby Weise and Oliver Whatley, and freshmen Shayler Dance and Jack Doherty to the championship event.
At Last Year's Match Play
Rutgers finished 12th at last year's installment of the championships. Whatley recorded one individual win against Indiana and halved his matches with Michigan State, Northwestern and Penn State. Against the Nittany Lions, Whatley carded a five-under-par 67. Gotterup also had an individual win over the Hoosiers at the event.
Next Time Out
Rutgers will have a bit of a break before its next event from March 4-5 at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina.
