NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers rowing will get set for its 2019 season with a scrimmage against Temple on Saturday, March 16 on the Raritan River in New Brunswick. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the Scarlet Knights and Owls taking part in a series of five-minute races.

Rutgers will field three varsity eights and two novice eights, while Temple will race three varsity eights, two varsity fours and a novice eight, in an exhibition for both schools. Due to low tide on Saturday, racing will occur downstream from the boathouse between the Route 1 and I-95 bridges on the Raritan.

Following the action on the water, the Scarlet Knights will hold its annual banquet at Neilson Dining Hall. The banquet will be held at 4:30 p.m., and rowing alumni are invited to attend. Â

RU will begin the regular season on Sunday, March 24 at the Cooper Sprints in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a successful 2018 campaign under the direction of head coach
Justin Price, who was in his first season at the helm. Rutgers enjoyed its best showing at the Big Ten Championship across the board and in the team standings. Senior
Sarah Johanek was named First Team All-Big Ten for the second-straight year, while sophomore
Ella Toa earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

Rutgers also earned its first-ever Big Ten Boat of the Week honors following a season-opening sweep of Columbia, one of the Scarlet Knights' two sweeps on the season. RU swept the Cherry Hill Invitational, winning every event by open water, including the Grand Final of the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four.

Johanek capped off the success of the 2018 season with a trip to the World Rowing Under 23 Championships where she captured a Gold medal in the women's coxed four.
