Softball Falls to No. 22 James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. (March 15, 2019) – Junior first baseman Nicole Bowman hit a solo home run off the 2017 NCAA Player of the Year before No. 22 James Madison broke out for eight runs in the home half of the fifth inning and cruised to a 10-1 run-rule victory on Friday afternoon at the JMU Invitational.

Rutgers continues the JMU Invitational on Saturday, March 16 at 11:30 a.m. against Morgan State, followed by a 4 p.m. contest opposite Binghamton.

STANDOUT STATS
- Freshman catcher Katie Wingert had one of two Rutgers hits in the setback.
- Bowman's homer was her third of the season, part of a 1-for-2 game.
- Defense held JMU scoreless and hitless through two as catcher Katie Wingert threw out her sixth base runner of the year, and shortstop Jess Hughes caught a dipping liner destined for center field to end the second frame.
- The Dukes' first hit of the game was a long one, as Hannah File hit a solo home run to the left field bleachers for the 1-0 lead.
- Bowman made it 2-1 with a solo blast on the very first pitch of the fifth inning. The homer was off Megan Good, the 2017 NCAA Player of the Year.
- JMU scored eight runs on seven hits while Rutgers committed two errors and the Dukes walked off with a three-run home run to invoke the eight-run rule.
- Anyssa Iliopoulos seven-game hitting streak and Jess Hughes' 13-game reached base safely streak both came to an end.
- JMU improves to 4-0 all-time.
