
Women's Basketball Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament

Seventh-Seeded Rutgers To Meet No. 10 Buffalo in First Round Action on Friday in Storrs, Connecticut
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's basketball team is dancing to the 2019 NCAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed taking on 10th-seeded Buffalo in first round action in Storrs, Connecticut in the Albany Region.
The contest between the Scarlet Knights and Bulls is set for 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Gampel Pavilion. The winner will advance to the second round and face the winner between No. 2 Connecticut and No. 15 Towson.
Rutgers will be making its 25th NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2015 having compiled 36-24 (.600) record in the NCAA Tournament, including a place in the 2007 national championship game as well as a trip to the 2000 Final Four.
The Scarlet Knights earned an at-large bid with 22-9 overall mark and 13-5 record in the Big Ten. RU reached the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2014.
The Scarlet Knights have racked up over 20 regular season wins for the first time since 2014-15, a season which saw RU reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Additionally, Rutgers' 13 conference victories are the most by the program since the 2007-08 season when RU went 14-2 in the Big East.
Rutgers is led by Second Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Tournament selection, redshirt senior Stasha Carey, who is averaging 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Carey is closely followed on the stat sheet by Honorable Mention All-Big Ten pick, redshirt sophomore guard Arella Guirantes, at 12.0 points per game and shooting a consistent 83.1 percent from the free throw line.
Tim Eatman will serve as acting head coach for head coach C. Vivian Stringer, who will be on leave until after the season. It is Coach Eatman's second stint filling in for Coach Stringer. He previously served as acting head coach for three games following the illness and passing of Stringer's mother, Thelma Stoner, in 2016.
The MAC Champions, Buffalo enters the tournament at 23-9 overall and ais led by senior guard Cierra Dillard, the nation's second leading scorer at 25.2 points per game and junior forward Summer Hemphill, who is averaging 14.3 points per game.
